Se o Presidente Jorge Sampaio não tivesse organizado em Arraiolos em 2003 um encontro informal entre os Presidentes não executivos da União Europeia para debater a Europa, as relações institucionais multilaterais entre os países europeus não tinham sido implementadas. A não ser que o Presidente esteja em Dresden este fim-de-semana, não participará na terceira edição dos encontros. Em Dresden, o Presidente alemão vai propor aos seus homólogos uma discussão sobre três grande temas: como colmatar o fosso entre a Europa política e os cidadãos; como explicar a relevância da União Europeia no dia-a-dia dos europeus; como manter a Europa unida.

If President Jorge Sampaio hadn’t organized in 2003 in Arraiolos an informal meeting among the non-executive Presidents to debate Europe, the multilateral institutional relations between the European countries wouldn’t have been implemented. Unless the President is in Dresden this weekend, he won’t participate in the third edition of the meetings. In Dresden the German President will propose his fellow colleagues a debate on three big issues: How to end the gap between political Europe and citizens; how to explain the relevance of Europe in the day-to-day lives of the Europeans; how to keep Europe together.
