Escreve-me.

Em amizade,

Lúcia.

1.1 Read the text. Fill in the table with information.

“I’m aged 27 and currently studying at Bournemouth and Poole College. I started learning English when I was 22 because it is an international language. I came to England from my home town of Simferopol to improve my English, and made all the arrangements through an agency in Kiev. First of all I did a six-month course at the Anglo-European Language School in Bournemouth, and am now taking a one-year level 2 course in hotel reception. This course will give me the opportunity to deal with foreign customers as a receptionist. Being here is very good for my English, because I rarely have the chance to speak Russian.”

Learning Esperanto brings some advantages. You can benefit from international contacts. There are free crash courses on the Net. They allow for a longer stay in more than 70 countries where you can communicate using Esperanto. Many words are international, then, this language results from the combination of other languages. The grammar is very simple when you confront Esperanto’s structure with other more complex structures. If you devote yourself to Esperanto you can be a language rep in your own country.

10H – A letter

London, August 22, 2006

Dear Susan,

I’ve been learning English in London for a week. It has been a wonderful week. I’ve done so many things that I don’t know where to start. I’ve been reading a book in the library since nine o’clock. I’ve met people from all over the world. The Byron School of English has been providing us with marvellous opportunities. We have been to museums, we have visited castles and we’ve seen unbelievable plays. I’ve been writing my report all week. I’ve devoted myself to many extra-curricular activities such as dancing, singing and swimming. I hope I can benefit from this intensive course.

Love,

Diana.
